The objective of the proposed project is to establish high definition video conferencing and streaming services and shared workspaces for cooperation in the e-Health area between King Faisal Hospital, Trac Plus and KIST in Rwanda and Karolinska Hospital, Karolinska Institute and KTH in Sweden. To deploy the services, an R&D infrastructure, CARENET-Rwanda, similar to the CARENET-Sweden network between KTH and Karolinska in Stockholm will be established as a part of the Rwanda national research and education network, Rwednet.  Both the services and the network will be based on open source software and off-the-shelf hardware components. To secure sustainability and expansion of the cooperation on eHealth projects, the project will include capacity building in Rwanda by involving students from KIST.The expected impact of the network includes- A kick-start for the larger National Research and Education Network in Rwanda, Rwednet, connecting all tertiary level education and research institutions to the global dedicated research and education network s well as to  Internet.- Capacity building of human resources in the area of broadband networks and advanced services requiring broadband networks such as high definition video conferencing and streaming.- Preparation of a platform enabling research and development cooperation on e-learning, e-health and e-governance between institutions and organisations in Rwanda, Sweden and elsewhere.
